Soda is one of the most popular drinks in the world.

The sugary sweet drink is popular with kids and adults alike and has long been the soft drink of choice in countries like the United States for decades.

But as the years have passed, medical research has gone to important lengths to explore the effects on soda on our bodies. As a result, we now know that this delicious-tasting drink is actually a lot more like a poison than a drink and can have the following negative effects.

This poison destroys your body so you need to think twice next time you want to drink a can of soda. Read on to learn what exactly it does to you:

1. Weight

Soda is one of the key contributors to weight gain. If you drink a single can of soda a day, you will gain more than a pound every month. And don’t believe everything you read, diet soda is really no better and can, in fact, sometimes cause you to gain more weight due to the effects of the artificial sweeteners the drinks use to replace sugar.

2. Liver Damage

If you consume too much soda, you are at a greater threat of suffering from liver cirrhosis, in the same way, that alcoholics have an increased risk for this disease. In fact, consuming just two cans of soda a day could lead to long-term liver damage.

3. Tooth Decay

Soda is responsible for doubling and even tripling the probability of tooth decay. The soda dissolves the protective enamel on your teeth, and its acidity is said to be worse than the solid sugar used in candy sweets.

4. Kidney Stones And Kidney Disease

The high phosphoric acid content of colas and other soft drinks can affect your urine so much that it can promote kidney stone formation. Even consuming less than three 12-ounce cans of soda a week will increase your risk of developing kidney stones by 15 percent.

5. Diabetes

Any substance that leads to weight gain also increases the risk of diabetes. However, this is not the only reason that soda can increase your risk of diabetes. It also stresses your body’s ability to process sugar – and is suspected of being the reason why the number of Americans suffering from Type 2 Diabetes has tripled over the last twenty years.

6. Acid Reflux

The high levels of acid in carbonated drinks can lead to acid reflux. They also result in the delivery of large amounts of carbon dioxide, which can cause distension of your stomach, and increase the reflex even further.

7. Osteoporosis

If you consume a soft drink that contains phosphoric acid, then you increase your risk of suffering from osteoporosis (when your skeletal structure becomes weaker). When phosphate levels are high and your calcium levels are low, the calcium is pulled from your bones and leaves them weak.

8. Hypertension

Whether you are drinking a diet or regular soda, experts have found that drinking soda leads to an increase in blood pressure.

9. Heart Disease

Studies have shown that if you drink more than one soft drink a day you are more likely to develop risk factors for heart disease in the form of metabolic syndrome.

This is a group of symptoms that includes obesity, high blood pressure, and elevated fasting blood sugar. Having three or more of the symptoms in this group increases your risk of both diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
