Adult life can be exhausting, can’t it? A whirlwind of work, maintaining a home, attempting a social life and keeping on top of finances, it can sometimes feel overwhelming.

School never taught us how to apply for a mortgage, track personal finances or write a will. And of course, it never taught us how to simplify our life. So it all comes with a lot of learning and well, a lot of Googling!

If you’re feeling the struggle and finding it hard to cope, something has to change. It’s time to Marie Kondo your adult life, say goodbye to the stress and hello to a simple way of living…

These top tips will help you to simplify your life:

Eliminate the daily stress

It’s hard to totally eradicate stress from your life, but you can certainly make small changes to enjoy a more peaceful existence. Constructing a routine can really help here, and it’s important that you get your day off to the best start possible with positive morning habits.

It might mean setting that alarm a little bit earlier, but you’ll soon reap the rewards. Starting the day with meditation can help to combat stress, depression, and anxiety. You can meditate at any time of the day, but research suggests that morning is best.

Wake up and grab a drink, a bite to eat and settle down for a 15-minute meditation session. Don’t be tempted to look at your phone when you first get up, those emails can wait! If you’re new to meditation, look to download a guided meditation app for beginners.

Plan out your day

If you’ve never heard of the Eisenhower principle then it’s well worth researching and understanding. The principle gives you a basic framework of how to organize your day and prioritize tasks.

Take 10 minutes out of an evening to plan your next day ahead, this will give you greater clarity and understanding of what you want and need to achieve that day. If you want to simplify your life, it’s best to try and incorporate this into a regular routine.

You will see how your daily life will feel less stressed and much simpler!

Arrange your finances

Money is the root of all evil, or so they say. It’s true that much of our adult stress boils down to money-related issues. It might be a credit card that’s spiraled out of control or a large bill that’s come out of the blue.

Don’t bury your head in the sand, mark a day in the diary and get those finances in order! Spreadsheets are your best friend here, know what you have coming in, and what’s going out. Transfer your credit card debt to an interest-free card and set up monthly repayments.

With today’s hectic lifestyle, it can be difficult to keep your finances in order. However, with modern technological advances, it is possible to take care of your financial duties on the go, by using your computer or mobile device. Many of the financial concerns modern people face can be solved online, including writing a will.

Focus on one thing at a time

If you find yourself constantly chasing your tail, then it may be time to step back and evaluate what’s going on in your life. It’s natural to want it all, to be successful in all aspects of your life and to sometimes bite off more than you can chew, but it will leave you feeling burnt out.

Instead, adopt a different way of living and try to focus on nurturing just one aspect of your life at one given time. For example, March might be the month you focus on your finances, April might be the month you join the gym and enjoy a new fitness routine. Try not to take on too much at once, this can have a negative impact.

Automate those repetitive tasks

Embrace modern day living and put those pesky, mundane tasks on repeat! List any recurring tasks such as the food shopping, paying the bills, and cleaning the house which you struggle to keep up with and arrange an automated system so you don’t have to think or worry about them.

Set up automatic direct debits for your bills, set up an online food order and look into hiring a housekeeper a couple of hours a week to relieve both stress and time. Did you know you can even set up a laundry subscription these days?

Try these five tips to simplify your adult life and bring some calm to your everyday tasks.
