Many people prefer wearing socks in bed, and there is a good reason for this as it has some unexpected health benefits.
Sleep is one of the most important things you can give to your body. It allows your body time to regenerate and heal itself. But you can really only notice how important sleep is to your body when you don’t get enough.
Without a good night’s sleep, you feel tired, run down and unhealthy. You should always try to get at least eight hours of sleep every night in order to prepare yourself for the day and to maintain your health.
While it’s healthy to get plenty of sleep, did you know you can make the most of your time in bed with a clever trick – by wearing socks!
Many people already choose to wear socks in bed, they find it comforting and it helps them to get to sleep – there’s a reason for this. Sleeping with socks on dilates the blood vessels and sends a signal to the brain to let the body know it’s time for sleep.
Not only does wearing socks in bed send you peacefully to sleep and keeps you comfortable throughout the night, but it also has some other unexpected health benefits:
1. Prevents Raynaud’s Disease
You may not have heard of Raynaud’s Disease, as it is a very rare condition that affects the blood cells and causes an overreaction to the cold. By wearing socks in bed your body is able to regulate itself and prevent the disease.
2. Prevents Cough
Many cultures traditionally suggest wearing socks with mustard powder inside to treat a cough, but wearing socks every night in bed will also prevent a cough in the first place.
3. Treats Dry Skin
By wearing socks in bed you can prevent waking up with dry and cracked heels, a common problem that often occurs during colder months.
If you already suffer from cracked heels, apply some moisturizer to your feet before putting cotton socks on and go to sleep. You will wake up with softer feet and eventually even soften the cracked skin.
4. Prevents Night Sweat and Hot Flushes
The socks enable your body to regulate its temperature, keeping your body temperature stable and preventing night sweats and hot flushes, which can often cause people to wake up in the middle of the night.
5. Treat Fever
If you are suffering from a hot fever, soaking your socks in apple cider vinegar before wearing them in bed will boost your immune system and help you to recover.
However, if you are currently taking medication for fever, then do not use this remedy.
6. Warm Your Feet
If you suffer from uncomfortable and cold feet then try adding some hot chili or cayenne pepper to your socks. It will warm up your feet in no time! Just be careful not to touch the chili and then rub your eyes!

- Make sure you wear clean, fresh socks in bed that are ideally made of cotton
While wearing socks is an incredible trick so many people, it doesn’t work for everyone. You can also try taking a hot bath or limiting your food and drink intake before bed to help you sleep and improve your health.
