If going to work seems like an endless chore, you might need to consider a career change and moving on with your life.

Having a career change at any point in your life can seem like a very stressful experience and most people will avoid doing it, just so they don’t lose that sense of security that their stable job offers.

There are times though when even a stable job can’t fulfill you and you feel like you can do way more than just that. If that is the case for you, here are a few signs that can help you decide whether you need a career change as well as a few tips on how to do it the right way.

1. You Constantly Feel Exhausted

Do you feel like no matter how much sleep you get you never actually feel rested? Are you always sleepy or have a headache and no energy left to function? These could be some clear signs of you needing a career change.

If you are doing something that you do not enjoy on an everyday basis, it will leave you feeling mentally exhausted and constantly tired. The problem here is that the longer you keep doing that, the more drained you will feel.

Meetings will seem endless and nothing will be able to make you feel excited or look forward to another day at the office. Slowly but surely, each day will pass by slower and slower.

Instead of doing something that will make you feel bored and leave you with no energy, for the rest of your life, try looking for something that will make you want to work even if you’re tired. That’s the only way to make sure you will always work on something that you feel passionate about and that will keep you wanting to do more and more.

2. You Have Lost your Creativity

At the beginning of every career, it is expected of an employee to be creative and very effective. This is something that will continue happening as long as the employee finds the job interesting and is not stuck doing just one thing over and over again.

If you have noticed that you are no longer as creative as you used to be in your workplace, it might be that this job doesn’t have a lot left to offer you. Being good at the job you do greatly depends on how much you enjoy doing it.

The longer you stay in a job that doesn’t allow you to be creative, the less successful you will be at it, as you won’t be able to unleash your full potential and create a good outcome. This will straight away affect your potential promotions and therefore your income.

3. It’s not just a Seasonal Dissatisfaction

Many times, when we go to work after the holidays, we might feel bored or unmotivated to do anything work-related. If that is the case for you, then a career change might not always be needed. The holiday spirit, the family gatherings and the much needed time to rest can easily contribute to you feeling like you really don’t want to go back to work.

On the other hand, a clear indicator that a career change should happen soon is when you have been thinking about it for a while. Even before you had time off or before the holidays started, you still felt tired and unmotivated to go back to work every day and there was nothing that you looked more forward to than having some days to yourself, without having to deal with your job or coworkers daily.

While there are many factors that can contribute to this, but the result is the same. You have had the idea in your mind for a while and it seems like anything could be better than the current job you have. If that is the case, you should definitely go for it.

4. You Self-Esteem is Impacted by it

A very clear indicator that you should consider changing career paths is when your current job is impacting the way you view yourself and your self-esteem. Your profession should never make you feel like you are not doing a good enough job or that your ideas are not being taken into consideration by your peers.

If you start doubting yourself or your abilities you should definitely try moving on from this job, no matter what its other advantages are. The biggest problem that will appear from this situation is that in the long run, your emotional state will be very heavily impacted and your self-doubt will be transferred to other parts of your life, apart from your working place.

Your career should make you feel fulfilled and confident. It should give you opportunities to grow and put your ideas to use so that you keep being creative and feel like you are respected and valued for your contribution to your workplace.

5. The Only Part that Keeps You Going is the Money

This is what ends up happening when you find yourself stuck in a job that isn’t fulfilling at all but it pays well. When you are in a job that you know how to do well, it kind of becomes a routine. You know what you have to do in order to have everything ready on time and you are good at it.

The big problem here is that this situation presents you with no challenges whatsoever and your everyday life just ends up turning into a never-ending circle.

If the only reason why you keep doing a certain job is financial security or the good payment, you should consider taking a step forward and finding something else to do. Your job must be challenging and it should be something that makes you look forward to doing it.

No matter how much you get paid, money will never be able to make up for your personal happiness and in the long run, it’s not worth it to put yourself under emotional and physical stress just so people believe you are successful because of your paycheck.

You Shouldn’t Make a Rushed Decision

Making a change in your career path and looking for a new job can seem very exciting. But the most important thing here is to take your time and choose wisely.

The career change does not have to happen overnight; you can still keep your current job while you explore new options and look for anything else that might help you live a happier and more successful life.

Starting any new job is never easy and you need to keep in mind that it will come in handy to have an income while you are trying to get started. So, take your time and think long and hard about your options before you make your final decision. You might even come to find that you do not need a career change after all.

Don’t Let the Thought of Something New Intimidate you

When you are trying to start over on a new field of work, you will probably feel scared or intimidated by the type of work or the new environment. One of the best ways to deal with this is to try an online freelancing job on the field you are interested in.

Let’s say for example that you would like to pursue a career in translating, but you have no idea how to get into translation work. The answer to that is freelancing. You will easily be able to find work online and get plenty of experience in this field of work.

Most of the people who offer work online will offer honest work and a good payment. And who knows, you might even enjoy the benefits of working as a freelancer!

So, after gaining all this experience, you shouldn’t be afraid to apply for work at a company you have found offline just because it is something new to you. The key is to find a way to practice before you can apply for the actual job. That is bound to help you feel more in charge of the situation.

Do something that will make you Happy

No matter what you decide to do, the most important thing in achieving a successful career change is to find a job that will make you fill fulfilled and happy. The point of this journey is to help you get away from a situation that is exhausting you and into one that will help you unleash your full potential.

So, do not be afraid to go after something new. If you have explored your options well and you are certain you will enjoy whichever career path you are considering, you are bound to achieve a positive outcome. You just need to trust your instincts and work hard to achieve your goals.
