Are you aquaphobic? Say it ain’t so. Enjoying water activities and finding peace in the water can be a life-changer, as it really can lead to a more serene outlook on just about everything.

That might sound like a bunch of hippie hoopla, but we don’t think we’re overselling it. There’s just something about becoming one with H20 that can be magical. Whether you’ve dipped your toes in, so to speak, or are looking for water activities and the ways to get inspired to change your daily routine, we can help.

You don’t have to be Kelly Slater to enjoy the waves. It is important, however, to note your skill level and choose your area for surfing accordingly. Many worry about the fact that expert level surfers can be territorial and, while there is some truth to that, it’s more about starting out in waters that are easier to learn in.

You don’t want to get banged up on your first day and decide this sport isn’t for you simply because you chose waves that were too big and/or challenging.

What you want is to catch at least one wave and get up on that board, as your life will change at that very moment. From that second on, you will most likely get the surfing “bug” that so many people talk about.

If you live in an area where this is offered, consider yourself lucky, as this is a mentally and physically challenging task that also provides more than the occasional giggle.

Standup paddleboarding is as physically demanding as you let it be, as you can choose the area. If you’re out in the open surf, you’re going to be up against it, but experienced SUP’ers love this.

Those who prefer the more soothing side of the sport prefer to get their boards out in calmer waters, such as lagoons or mellow channels. Either way, though, SUP Yoga is going to be an experience like none other, challenging you and your core in a way that no other workout has likely ever done before.

Nearly every town has one of these and, as parents; we sometimes dread the thought of getting out there with the masses. There’s no denying that this is one of those water activities that are universally loved by all children, though, so it’s our job to at least occasionally take one for the team.

Slather the sunscreen, put your game face on, and get out there. The look on your kids’ faces will make it well worth it. The best way to dry off after a day like this is with a giant towel. And, yes, the post-water park margaritas are implied.

There are very few water activities that are as fun and as tranquil as sailing and/or boating. If you have a boat or have a friend with a boat, make sure to get a day on the water on the calendar. If not, though, you are likely near a body of water that offers boat rentals or boat rides that you can pay for.

Whether it’s a ferryboat ride down the river or a whale or dolphin-watching voyage on the open sea, this will be something that you’ll remember forever. Don ‘t forget the camera!

“A triathlon?” you say skeptically. “I could never do that.” Don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it! The key to success is having the mentality to try anything at least once. We know that the thought of running, swimming, and biking all in one race can sound intimidating, but if you train slowly over the course of months, you’ll be shocked at how doable this can be.

If you’re a newbie to the active lifestyle in general, there are plenty of mini or beginner triathlons around that can make this more manageable. The feeling of accomplishment you’ll feel post-race while celebrating with your fellow tri-mates (and hopefully new friends!) will be astounding.

Read on for five awesome water activities to enjoy this summer.
