In a recent study<\/a> at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, mindfulness-based interventions were assessed over eight weeks on employees of a surgical intensive care unit, including techniques such as gentle stretching, yoga, meditation, and music.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Results revealed that the groups that received mindfulness interventions had a noticeable decrease in their levels of salivary amylase, in comparison to the groups that received no intervention at all.<\/p>\n

The study author Maryanna Klatt confirms:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cOur study shows that this type of mindfulness-based intervention in the workplace could decrease stress levels and the risk of burnout.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat’s stressful about the work environment is never going to change,\u201d<\/em> she said, \u201cBut what we were interested in changing was the nursing personnel’s reaction to those stresses. We measured salivary alpha amylase, which is a biomarker of the sympathetic nervous system activation, and that was reduced by 40 percent in the intervention group.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
