Did you know that only two ounces of wheatgrass juice have the nutritional value of five pounds of raw organic vegetables?

Wheatgrass is grown from wheat seeds and contains up to 70% chlorophyll, which is an incredibly important blood builder.

Chlorophyll contains enzymes and superoxide dismutase, a copper-containing protein which is found in mature red blood cells.

This enzyme helps you to actually slow down the aging process.

Chlorophyll also neutralizes toxins in the body, detoxifies your liver and blood and neutralizes a lot of environmental pollutants.

Chlorophyll can be extracted from various plants, although wheatgrass is superior because it also contains over 100 elements that are vitally important for your health.

Vitamins A, B, C, E, l and K can be found in wheatgrass too. It is very rich in protein and contains 17 amino acids – that’s your protein.

If wheatgrass is grown in organic soil, it absorbs 92 of the known 115 minerals from the soil. How is that for a healthy cocktail?

There’s no doubt that green juice plays a massive role in optimal nutrition and wheatgrass juice is believed to be one of nature’s finest medicines.

Did you know that only two ounces of wheatgrass juice have the nutritional value of five pounds of raw organic vegetables? It’s got twice the amount of Vitamin A as carrots and is even higher in Vitamin C than oranges!

Wheatgrass is believed to improve blood sugar disorders, prevent tooth decay, improve wound healing and prevent bacterial infections. It cleanses the body of any heavy metals, pollutants and numerous toxins stored in the body’s organs and tissues.

Same as with any food, quality is highly variable and if you choose to use wheatgrass, it’s important to pay attention to where and how it is grown. It is far cheaper to grow your own plus you will be in charge of making sure it’s grown under the right conditions, so you are getting a much higher quality grass.

Due to the bitterness of wheatgrass, it’s very important to harvest it at the right time (typically around one week after the seeds germinate at what is called the “jointing stage”).

Exposing your wheatgrass only to indirect sunlight also helps avoid bitterness while making sure there is no mold growth is vital to your health as the mold can make you really sick.

Wheatgrass is very easily contaminated with mold due to its tightly bound roots when grown in moist soil – the mold usually grows at the bottom of the wheatgrass near the soil. Keeping a gentle breeze blowing and the humidity low, reducing the number of seeds (so the growth is less dense) will help you make sure the mold does not appear.

Most people juice wheatgrass, but it also can be purchased in supplement form.

However, if you wish to get the most out this amazing plant, juicing it is the best option. Juicing helps you absorb all the nutrients from the food, which is great as most of us have impaired digestion as a result of making a lot of rather poor food choices over the years, which limits our ability to absorb all the vitamins and minerals from fruits and vegetables.

However, juicing your wheatgrass (or any other foods and superfoods for that matter) will help to “pre-digest” them for you, so you will get the most of the nutrition.

Drinking your wheatgrass juice first thing in the morning can give you a phenomenal energy boost (just like coffee but much healthier!). For the best results, it’s recommended to consume the wheatgrass juice fresh within fifteen minutes of juicing.

However, if you decide to use wheatgrass, you have to be very careful as excessive amounts of this plant can make you nauseous and may catalyze a healing crisis (which could make you very sick).

Also, bare in mind that it is not a food but a detoxifying herb and, therefore, should not be used on a daily basis for long periods of time.

Since wheatgrass is such a strong and highly detoxifying herb, it’s a good idea to use wheatgrass juice judiciously. When first starting wheatgrass, you should use one ounce once or maximum twice a day, slowly making your way up to two ounces.

Here is a yummy wheatgrass smoothie recipe to start your tomorrow morning:

Ingredients:

  • 4 ounces coconut water
  • 4 ounces freshly squeezed wheatgrass juice
  • 2 cups of cubed pineapple
  • 2 small peeled bananas
  • 1 cup of baby spinach

Enjoy!
