A glass of warm turmeric water each morning will improve your body function as it has many health benefits.

How you start your morning sets the tone for the rest of your day, so it’s important to make conscious decisions from the get-go. Spicing up your routine with a glass of warm turmeric water could be the colorful concoction you need to kick-start your day, so why not give it a try?

Research has shown that curcumin, a compound found in turmeric is oozing with health benefits. From anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties to improving digestion, complexion, cholesterol levels, and even warding off cancer, it’s hard to argue against consuming curcumin in any form.

But in case you’re not quite convinced, here are the top ten reasons to try turmeric water at the start of your morning.

1. It’s an Instant Boost to the Immune System.

This mighty root is packed full of endotoxins, which helps our immune systems fight off bacteria, lowering the risk of catching colds and flu. Upping your dosage during the winter months is definitely advisable, to help defend against the many viruses that are prevalent in the colder months.

2. It Aids Digestion

Turmeric is great for the tummy. It encourages the gallbladder to produce bile and other components that help the body digest food properly.

This makes it a delicious and useful accompaniment to any breakfast table. It’s especially beneficial to people who enjoy too many saturated fats, which are hard to break down.

3. It Lowers Your Cholesterol Levels

We all know how important it is to keep our cholesterol levels in check, and turmeric can certainly help. Lowering cholesterol levels helps ward off cardiovascular disease and strokes, which are on the rise within the fast-paced 20th-century living.

4. It Encourages Healing

Turmeric is often celebrated as nature’s finest antiseptic, so it’s especially beneficial to drink turmeric tea when you’ve got a cut or scrape.

Not only will it help speed up the external healing process, but the tonic’s warmth and color also provide a moment of calm, necessary for mental health. This holistic approach to medicine reflects the fundamentals of Ayurveda medicine, which often uses turmeric.

5. It Reduces Inflammation

The anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric mean it can help relieve joint pains. So for people with arthritis, a warm glass of turmeric tonic is a brilliant start to the day.

6. It Helps the Body Process Sugars

The last thing your body needs in the morning is high blood sugar. As turmeric helps prevent sugar spikes, calming the nervous system, it’s a healthy way to ease your body into the day. This effect is especially beneficial for people with diabetes.

7. It Cleanses Your Liver

Ayurveda medicine has always turned to turmeric to help flush the liver of toxins. If you’ve had a heavy night, turmeric in the morning is the perfect antidote. Whilst it might not completely cure a hangover, it will certainly help your body break down the toxins from the night before.

8. It Improves Complexion

Turmeric has earned the nickname the ‘golden spice of life’ due to its array of beauty benefits. The mustard-colored powder has been a key part of Indian women’s’ beauty regimes for hundreds of years.

The anti-inflammatory properties reduce the swelling of existing spots, whilst also brightening the overall skin and adding a healthy glow.

9. It Aids Relaxation

Despite its vibrant yellow color, turmeric is the perfect root to help you relax. It’s a great way to start the day if you’ve got a stressful commute.

10. It Improves Cognitive Functions

This tasty tea has even been linked with reducing the chances of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

Scientists have found that the mighty curcumin found within turmeric counteracts symptoms of Alzheimer’s, by blocking the formation of beta-amyloid, the protein substance believed to cause the cell and tissue loss. In addition, turmeric reduces inflammation of neural tissue associated with the disease.

Introduce turmeric into your life!

With such a diverse and impressive list, there is little reason not to try warm turmeric water in the morning. Try adding honey or lemon to add a little zing to your turmeric tea, and you’ll certainly have a spring in your step throughout the day.

However, make sure to inform yourself about the side effects of consuming too much turmeric and consult your doctor before introducing it into your diet.

I had a very sore knuckle on my ring finger. Usually this one does not hurt. I have mild osteoarthiritis. I had some old curcumin in powder I never used so I put a teaspoon in a small glass of water. Magic, pain was gone the next morning. My question is how much of it should I really use ‘ a half a teaspoon, a whole teaspoon. Just not sure.
