There are some things you should finally forgive yourself for. It may seem like a small thing in the grand scheme of things, but self-forgiveness is actually highly important when it comes to moving on to bigger and better things.

The mistakes that we make can sometimes have a hold on us, but no-one wants to be stuck in the mud, right?

So, take a look at some of the things you may need to forgive yourself before moving to the next stage of your life:

1. Dreams:

We are usually told to never give up on dreams. But, did you know that dreams can evolve? You may have dreamt of being a ballerina or a basketball player when you were younger but life (and possibly height) got in the way. Sometimes, it’s okay to make plans and not see them through.

2. Coping Mechanisms:

There are times, usually when we are younger, that we find ways of coping with pain that damage us even more. What made you feel alive when you felt like your world was falling apart? Forgive yourself for the way you coped. It made you the person you are today.

3. First Loves:

First loves are right up there with one of the hardest things to forget and let go of. Whether you made mistakes, or they did, it’s time to move on. The only way you can really find love again is to let go of the first one, forgive yourself and forgive the other person.

4. Insecurities:

Do you feel like you’re not enough? Like you shouldn’t have eaten that big lunch? If you don’t like the way you look or feel, you must give yourself a break. Give yourself permission to fail occasionally. We are all human, and let’s be honest, who can pass up a slice of pizza?

5. A Missed “I Love You”:

We often take life for granted and don’t tell the people we love how we feel as much as we should. If you are feeling guilty because you missed the opportunity to tell someone how you feel, forgive yourself. It’s a mistake we’re all guilty of, and sadly one we don’t often get the chance to rectify but if that person knew you well enough, the chances are they knew you loved them too.

6. The Things You Should Have Known:

Perhaps you put your trust in someone when your instinct was telling you not to. Maybe you gave someone your heart when everyone around you was telling you, you shouldn’t. Life is about taking risks, and if you got burnt because of yours, forgive yourself, learn from it and move on.
