There is nothing more magical than watching a magnificent sunset and best of all it’s something that can be enjoyed anywhere in the world.

However, there are some places that you have to go to just to view sunset:

1. Bangkok, Thailand.

Take it from personal experience, there is nothing more awe-inspiring than watching the peace of a sunset from a skyscraper in Bangkok contrasted with the hustle and bustle that is going on below you.

2. Santorini, Greece.

It might seem that sunset viewing is easy, look at the sky and enjoy, well it is in most places but not Santorini. Known for its unspoiled, tranquil beauty means that it also attracts vast numbers of tourists, which means crowded views.

After much research, the best spot to view the sunset without tourists obscuring the view is from Mamathira, a quaint tavern where you can enjoy the view from two floors.

3. Marrakech, Morocco.

Sitting on the roof of a Riad, with a mint tea in hand, watching the warm African sun setting is contentment personified. If you are lucky enough you might hear the Adhan (call to prayer).

4. Lighthouse beach, Kerala, India.

The hippies, the surfers, the sun worshippers, not to mention the dogs and cows are your companions as you watch the sun lower to the sound of Prem Joshua coming from the chilled beach cafes. You’ll be on a natural high from your surroundings and just how chilled this beach is.

5. Dalyan, Turkey.

The Caunos tombs that Dalyan looks over are brought to life when the sun sets over the sleepy river town. The tombs date back to the 4th century and almost keep an eye on the town from the mountaintops.

6. Havana, Cuba.

Whilst the sun sets the city becomes alive with the sound of samba, laughing and the chink of glasses shouting “Salud”. The people are as warm as the climate and are as equally captivated by the sunset they see daily as you will be.

7. London, United Kingdom.

The sunset in London is as monumental as it gets. Featured in numerous films but nothing quite captures it until you stand in the Centre Point building and look down Oxford Street as the sun lowers on one of the busiest cities in the world.

8. Mekong River, Thailand.

The river itself runs through six countries, Thailand, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, China, Vietnam and Myanmar, so no matter what country you are in, you will experience the magic. Grab yourself a Beer, jump onto a boat, and experience the sunset as you float down the river.

9. Brecon Beacons, Wales.

The Brecon Beacons come rain, shine, snow, fog and every other weather condition imaginable are a phenomenal place to be to watch the sunset. The beacons are formed from six peaks, the highest peak is 2907 feet, which you can imagine would be a fairly awesome place to watch the sun go down.

10. Bergerac, France.

Immerse yourself in the miles and miles of fields of sunflowers that run throughout Bergerac, located in the South of France, as you watch the sun melt into the horizon. The town has two statues of Cyrano de Bergerac who was the subject of the play by Edmond Rostand, although Cyrano never lived in Bergerac.

11. Cappadocia, Turkey.

This is one of those places that you have to see to believe, it cannot really be described in words. The scenery looks like it’s from another planet and if you can also get up for sunrise, the sky will be littered with hot air balloons that look like confetti in the sky.

12. Canyonlands National Park, Utah, USA.

Found in South Eastern Utah, this national park encompasses canyons, mesas, buttes as well as Colorado River and the Green River. With four districts, it literally has something for everyone’s outdoor tastes: the Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze and the rivers themselves. But what could be better than having the sunset whilst you raft down the river?

13. Mount Fuji, Honshu Island, Japan.

An active volcano but not having erupted since 1707, this is one of the most iconic symbols of Japan. The symmetrical snow-capped cone during sunset is a view that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

14. Great Wall of China, Jinshanling, China.

This particular section of the wall is found in the mountainous area in Luanping County. This section of the wall is 10.5km long and with stunning views during the day, one can only step back in awe when the wall is drenched in startling orange hues.

15. Koh Samui, Thailand.

Koh Samui is just one of many beautiful islands off the coast of Thailand. It’s the second-largest, but its number one for sunsets…and sunrises if you can get up early enough!

16. Kenya, Africa.

There probably isn’t anything that can beat watching a sunset surrounded by wild animals roaming in their natural habitat. To guarantee a perfect sunset, book yourself onto one of the hundreds of safaris available and guarantee yourself some beautiful wildlife as you watch the sun go down.

17. Iceland.

Fancy watching sunrise at 11.30 am and sunset at 3.30 pm? Head over to Iceland during the winter solstice and you’ll experience this bizarre yet awesome experience.

The most magnificent sunsets are the ones enjoyed with loved ones, so wherever you are, check the time, pull up a chair and look up and enjoy mother earth’s best gift, sunset.
