What is a long distance relationship like in modern times?

Being apart from the ones you love is painful and only contact or attention from this special person can heal the pain.

Long distance relationships are complex, but with the invention of modern communication technologies, they are far less complicated than they were some forty or sixty years ago.

The angst of being alone and thinking about someone you love can at times be unbearable, and still, it vanishes as soon as you hear the familiar voice. These kinds of relationships test whether you are really bonded with your soulmate or not.

There are those precious moments when you receive a photo or you talk until you fall asleep and you feel as if though the person you love is right there with you. These moments recharge you emotionally and give you the strength to continue with your life.

A lot of energy goes into a long distance relationship, but it can be rewarding if you are with the right person. Distance doesn’t have to be a problem, you just need to organize and learn how to function. It may take some time and effort, but at the end, it will be worth it.

Through time, it becomes clear that you can’t take the person you love for granted. The moments you spend together are more precious and you both start appreciating them more than you would if you could see each other at any time. This gives the relationship more depth and allows you to think through your actions, instead of rushing into things you didn’t carefully plan first.

Tabby is a cartoonist in her mid-twenties and she describes herself as ‘redheaded and rad.’ She was also in a long distance relationship at one point of her life. She turned her experience into a series of comical cartoon illustrations that reflect the challenges and beautiful moments of this relationship. Tabby started doing this in 2015 and for more than a year, she strove to create at least two cartoons a week.

She writes on her Patreon account:

Creating the “slice of life” comic based on my relationship was a fun and easy way to document my life, as well as connect to my viewers. With that relationship ended, and my ldr comics continuing to be popular, I have felt a disconnect.

Apparently, her long distance relationship didn’t survive the test it was put on, but Tabby Freeman created witty, interesting and funny documents of her life. Enjoy her webcomic below and make sure to follow her on Twitter, Instagram, and Tumbler.
