My Darling Daughter,

I know that I haven’t met you yet, but I know that when I do that I will love you with every fibre of my being.

They say that there is no love quite like that between a mother and her child; I know I am not a mother yet but I strongly believe that this is true.

I have seen it in new mothers who are in awe at the sight of their new baby. I have seen it in the care at which a mother plaits her daughter’s hair.

I have seen it in my mother when my sister graduated from university, and I have seen it in my grandmother when my mother got married.

I have the greatest of hopes for you, little one.

I hope that you are inquisitive, that you are successful, but most of all that you are happy. Pursue your dreams, and know that I will be proud of you, no matter what you do.

I hope that you are kind. We live in a world today that can be so devoid of kindness. Be kind not only to others but also to yourself. Do not let yourself fall down the rabbit hole that is the media’s image of the perfect woman because you are already perfect even though you aren’t here yet.

You do not have to conform to what others see as normal, create your own normal, and be proud of exactly who you are.

Be kind to others, help them grow, and show the importance of kindness in this world. Be kind to both men and women, there is no need for differentiation, we all deserve kindness, love, and support. Have a big heart, my darling; kindness is too rare these days.

I hope that you are strong and strong enough to have confidence in your own decisions. I hope that you are strong enough to know that no person is worth your heartache unless you deem them to be.

I also hope that you are strong enough to recognize that people make mistakes and that you can be forgiving.

Most of all I hope that you follow your dreams.

I will be proud of you no matter what you do, whether you want to become a doctor, a dancer, or an artist. No dream is too big, and no dream is unachievable. You have the talent and you have the dedication, you just need to find it.

I hope that you forgive my mistakes, I will be learning about motherhood as you are learning about the world, and I won’t always get it right. I am not perfect, my love, and I will not pretend to be; but I will promise you that I will try.

I promise to provide you with all that I can support you in everything and love you unconditionally. I know that I will make mistakes and I know that we will argue, but I also know that I will be the first to pick you up when you fall and the first to comfort you when you’re sad.

Most importantly, I promise to love you with my entire being and I cannot wait to meet you.

All of my love and affection,

Your mother to be.
