The greenhouse effect, the primary cause of global warming, is the increase in global temperature due to greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gas includes Carbon dioxide, Carbon monoxide, Nitrous Oxide, and Methane. Burning fuels such as natural gas, coal, gasoline, etc. increase the level of CO2 in the earth’s atmosphere.

Carbon Dioxide, which is the main contributor to the greenhouse effect and global warming, should be reduced to a greater extent. Reducing the greenhouse effect is not that big deal, and the only thing we need to do is to lessen the emission of greenhouse gases.

Let’s look at some of the ways in which we can reduce the bad effects of greenhouse gases on the environment.

1. Limit Energy Consumption

This is the first and foremost step that should be followed to reduce the adverse effect of greenhouse gases on the environment. The everyday emission of energy results in the huge release of greenhouse gases to the environment.

The use of electronic equipment and other devices which use fossil fuel for energy should be completely eradicated. These days we use more cars and other vehicles that release a larger portion of greenhouse gases. Instead, use hybrid vehicles and clean energy alternatives.

Use electricity sources such as solar panels and wind power. This can definitely help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

2. Limit the Waste

For most of us, it is an unknown fact that wastes contribute so much to the release of greenhouse gases. Every physical waste material such as papers, food products, toys, etc. needs more energy for its disposal. So what could be done is to reduce the use of these external products?

Make all possible to rely on green alternatives rather than depending much on these products. Reading online subscriptions of newspapers, magazines and books will help reduce paper production and disposal.

Try sticking on to products that have only minimal packing, and this will help reduce waste. By recycling the half of household waste itself can reduce the greenhouse gases emission to a larger extent.

3. Planting More Trees

To reduce the greenhouse effect, plant as many trees as you can. A plant’s natural life cycle goes by absorbing CO2 for Photosynthesis, a process in which plant takes energy from the Sun. As mentioned above, CO2 comprises the main component of greenhouse gases.

The greater is the number of plants and trees in the surrounding, the less the greenhouse gas emission will be. Another point to be added here is that trees will create shadows for our homes, which will make us less dependent on Air Conditioners.

The equipment is sure to use a relatively large amount of electric energy, which leads to a greater amount of greenhouse gas emission.

4. Reduce Heating

Another good method to reduce the greenhouse effect is to stay away from heat. Weather-proof your home, add insulations to the roof which will surely cut the heat flowing inside the house, reframe the windows to double glazing, add outside shades especially in summer, weatherstrip and caulk windows and doorways, etc.

These choices will reduce the heat inside your home and, at the same time, when you plant trees outside; their shadows will protect your home from the outside heat. By cooling your home inside and out, you will need less electric energy, and greenhouse gas emission will surely reduce.

5. Reduce usage of Electricity

Turn off the lights and unplug other electrical equipment when not in use. Unplugging is really crucial because these devices use energy even when they are in standby mode. Replacing older light bulbs with fluorescent bulbs will be another efficient way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Use more energy-efficient products to stay away from the harmful effects of greenhouse gases. These are some of the ways by which we can reduce the harmful effects of greenhouse gases on the environment. The above tips are simple, easy to follow and applicable to the daily routine of our life.

So try them, go green and stay healthy.
