First of all, make the dough. Pour the water into a mixer, then add the yeast, flour, egg yolk, salt, honey, and butter. Mix these ingredients at a low speed for four minutes. Add more flour if the dough mixture seems too sticky.

After this, increase the speed of the mixer slightly and blend for another four minutes. Transfer the dough to a bowl and let it rest for about two hours.

Once the dough has risen, dust it and sprinkle flour on the surface. Punch it downwards to let the air out. Place it on the surface and fold the dough towards you. Shape it into a log.

Put it seam side down into a loaf tin and press it down lightly. Shape the dough in the tin. Cover it with a plastic bag. Make sure that you leave room for it to rise. Leave it in the fridge overnight.

The next day, preheat your oven to 190 degrees for about 10 minutes. Make sure that the dough has doubled in volume. Let it rest for another two hours on your counter if it hasn’t.

Then, it’s time to bake. Use water to spray the inside of the oven so that to get a lovely crust. Bake the dough for about 30 minutes. Remove the bread from the tin carefully. Slice the loaf and serve.

2. Honey Rolled Oats Bread

Fast food sandwich restaurants like Subway give a variety of bread options, one of which is Honey Oats. You can make it yourself and spend less on the ingredients. Here’s how to create the perfect Honey Oat loaf.

You will need:

  • Two cups boiling water
  • Half cup warm water
  • One Cup rolled oats
  • Half cup honey
  • Two tablespoons butter
  • Two tablespoons salt
  • 25 oz active dry yeast
  • Four cups bread flour
  • Another two tablespoons honey, slightly warm
  • Another two tablespoons rolled oats


Combine the boiling water, half a cup of honey salt and butter. Let this mixture stand for an hour.

Dissolve some yeast in warm water. Add the two cups of flour and mix well. Let this mixture stand until its creamy. Then, stir in the rest of the flour, half a cup at a time. Beat well with a fork after each addition.

You should have a dough. Once it’s pulled together, knead it on a lightly floured surface for about 20 minutes or until it’s elastic. Cover it with a damp cloth and put it in a warm area. Let it rise until it has doubled in volume. This process will take about an hour.

Then, deflate it and put it on a lightly floured surface. Divide it into equal pieces and form each one into a loaf. Place each into a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Bake the loaves for about half an hour or until their tops are golden brown. The bottom of each one should sound hollow. Remove them and brush them with two tablespoons of honey. Sprinkle each loaf with the remaining rolled oats.

You will need:

  • 500g rye flour
  • 10g fine salt
  • 50g cracked rye flakes
  • 50 g sunflower or pumpkin seeds
  • 35g fresh yeast
  • One tablespoon molasses or treacle


Put the salt and Rye Flour in a large bowl and pour in 400 ml of boiling water. Mix everything into a paste and allow it to cool.

Cream the fresh yeast with the treacle until liquid forms. Add it to the paste with the cracked rye and seeds. If you are using fast-action yeast, just put it in as it is. Pour in enough water to make a dough that isn’t sticky, but soft.

Grease a work surface and knead the dough for about 5 minutes or until it feels smooth. Then, layer a proofing basket with flour.

Make a ball with the dough by turning it around on the work surface. Put it into a bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. Leave it somewhere warm, but has no draft, overnight. It should rise by one and a half times.

Preheat your oven to 220 degrees. Place a roasting tray at the bottom. Boil some water and line a baking tray with parchment paper. Roll the dough out onto it and make sure that the surface with flour is on top. Cut it with a knife.

Put it in the oven and quickly pour boiling water into the tray until it is half full. Bake it for about 15 minutes or until there is a brown crust on top of the loaf. The base should be somewhat hollow. Leave it on a rack to cool.

  • Chopped walnuts, three-quarter cup

  • Active yeast 1/4 teaspoon

Put the yeast into the bottom of the mixing bowl and stir it with water. Mix in the salt. Then, beat the flour into the mixture until the dough is thick. It should pull floor from the side of the bowl.

Let the loaves rise until they double in size. Move the racks to the bottom and middle positions. Preheat the oven to its highest. Put a baking dish, filled with water, at the bottom.

Use kitchen shears to cut a few angled slashes at the top of each loaf. Press down the sharp dough tips. Spray the loaves with water.

Bake in the preheated oven until baguettes are browned, about 15 minutes, spraying loaves with water after 5 minutes and 10 minutes. Turn the pan around on the second spraying.

Bake them for about 15 mins. Transfer them to the counter and let them cool before serving.
