Did you know that the coconut palm is one of the world’s most versatile natural medicines?

As a matter of fact, it has been used in many indigenous cultures for a wide range of health complications for a very long time. It supports brain health, protects the heart and also reduces stress and depression. These are just a couple of the multiple healing properties coconut oil has.

One research at the University of Tufts found something very interesting – coconut oil is highly effective in controlling the growth of fungal pathogen Candida albicans in mice.

Candida albicans

Candida albicans are the most common human pathogens causing systemic infections with 40% mortality rate. It is normally found in the gastrointestinal tract in humans and using antibiotics can destroy commensal bacteria which keep them at a manageable level.

An increase in candida can lead to invasive candidiasis which the most common blood infection in United States hospitals.

However, frequent use of conventional anti-fungal drugs has the risk of adverse effects. Fungal pathogens become drug-resistant making natural approaches the most appropriate. Now, the most interesting bit discovered was that if coconut oil is put on a diet it reduces candida infection in mice.

A test carried out between coconut oil, beef tallow and soybean found out that among all of them, coconut oil reduced candida albicans in the gut the most compared to the other two. Also, a combination of coconut oil and beef tallow reduced the number of Candida albicans by 90% compared to a diet rich in beef tallow alone.

This healing oil was also noted to reduce fungal colonization in mice. Furthermore, the study helped in understanding yeast infections in susceptible individuals with coconut oil found to reduce short-term effects of the same.

Most adults in America who suffer from heart disease, which is the number one killer disease, can use this incredible product for a shorter time to control the rate of fungal growth.

Further research also shows that the healing properties of coconut oil make it an effective antifungal agent against the growth of dermatophytes. Any yeast infection of the skin, nails, and hair, keratin can mitigate with this ‘magical’ oil.

What does it mean to medical professionals?

The great outcome of this study is the fact that clinicians can have options in treating fungal infectionswithout necessarily relying on antifungal drugs and conventional methods. Antifungal drugs can be reserved for critical conditions as safe coconut oil can be integrated into diets to solve the problem.

Conclusion

So, why don’t you try coconut oil in your diet and see how it works? The beauty is that it is cheap and readily available not to mention that it is always advisable to go the natural way. In other words, anti-fungal drugs can be used once in a while when the conditions persist in severe.

A point to note though is that it is always remembering to seek professional help whenever you are in doubt about anything.
