Do you have dry cracked feet and calluses? Lemon is the solution!

Many of us are rather cautious when it comes to wearing sandals and getting our feet out in public places such as a beach or even a park in summer. We get used to hiding them during cold winter months and not looking after them properly… and then there is a disaster! Here is a brilliant natural solution for dry cracked feet and calluses which will quickly and effectively make a huge difference to the overall look of your feet as well as benefit your health: lemon!

It’s so hot outside yet we are forced to wear trainers because we are ashamed to show the world our toes. Or the other way round: to show our toes the world.

Lemon is rightfully addressed as a superfood because it contains vitamin C, A, B1, B6, magnesium, bioflavonoids, pectin, folic acid, phosphorus, calcium, and potassium. Lemons are a fantastic natural solution for the prevention of many diseases and fighting health problems such as flu, the common cold, laryngitis, bacterial infections, high blood pressure, problems with digestion, skin issues…

Some more recent studies have shown they may even be effective in preventing cancer. Unfortunately, a lot of people are unaware of the fact that almost half of the beneficial nutrients in lemons are contained in the peel. Because of its bitter taste, we throw the peel away and use only the juice of this fruit.

However, when you toss out the peel, you’re throwing away a huge number of nutrients that can improve your overall health and fight joint pain.

Impressive, right? So, how can we use lemons against problems such as dry cracked feet and calluses?

A callus, also known as callosity, is a toughened skin area that has become thick and hard due to repeated friction, pressure, or other irritation. Calluses develop on the feet, especially on the bottoms of the feet and the underside of the big toe.

They can also develop on the hands, fingers, or anywhere on the body where there is repeated friction. Calluses appear due to dry skin or too much friction on one area, such as the repeated rubbing caused by ill-fitting shoes.

High-heeled shoes are the worst offenders! While this problem is generally not serious, if not treated it can lead to other issues like skin ulceration or infection and cause tenderness, pain, and swelling. And, of course, it doesn’t look pretty…

Applying lemon peel to your heels will speed up the process of getting rid of the thick dead layers of your skin quicker, uncovering the softer new skin underneath. The acidic nature of lemon weakens the bonds between skin cells, allowing new cells to emerge quickly and replace the dead ones.

Plus, it will also help to alleviate any discomfort in your feet. However, using too much lemon too often can actually harm your skin and make it more susceptible to damage—especially from the sun.

An incredibly simple way of using lemon peel to get rid of dry cracked feet is cutting a fresh lemon before you go to bed, squeezing the juice into a glass for future use and placing one-half of the lemon on the heel of each foot, then covering them with clean, old socks and going to sleep.

Your heels will already be softer and smoother in the morning! For best results repeat the procedure every 2-3 days. You can also use the same lemon peel a couple of times before it starts drying out.

A few tips on how to prevent calluses:

  • Make sure your shoes fit properly and that there are no uncomfortable pressure points when you walk.
  • Stay away from high heels if you tend to get calluses.
  • Wear socks with your shoes, preferably cotton ones.
  • Keep your feet clean and dry. If your feet tend to sweat, try using foot powder.
  • Thoroughly scrub your feet every day during your shower or bath.
