There are many signs that indicate someone is interested in you, but your eye movement is the biggest giveaway, new study shows.

They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul, and as corny as this is, it actually is true when it comes to finding a new mate according to a new study.

A new study was undertaken at Wellesley College and the University of Kansas has found that our eye movement, or where we look at a person, can indicate our intentions to them.

This study conducted by Dr. Angela Bahns took 105 heterosexual young people (36 men and 69 women) and asked them to look at ten photographs of strangers.

What did Dr. Angela Bahns study found?

The study found that both men and women looked at the head and chest of someone that they might be interested in dating. They also found that both men and women looked at the legs and feet of someone that they were only interested in friendship with.

The study was able to highlight that women looked more at heads than men and that when they did look at heads they often only wanted friendship. Interestingly men who looked at female heads were less interested in having a friendship with the female.

The study highlighted that women who were single spent more time looking at the pictures than those that were in relationships. All women tended to focus at the center of the body: the waist, legs, hips, and chest, whether it was a romantic or platonic interest.

Dr. Bahsn who co-authored the study said:

This new study shows that what people look for in a prospective relationship partner depends on their rational goals. The same person who makes a highly desirable friend may not make a good mate.

So how can we tell if someone likes us, based on their eye movement? (and we are single)

If the cute man in Starbucks looks at your fabulous shoes then don’t count on him asking you out on a date, but it’s highly likely he’d like to be mates.

If he looks at your head, hips, and torso for a long period of time then he is considering you as a romantic partner rather than as a friend. This, in fact, comes from an evolutionary focus on whether a woman can reproduce.

Other than eye movement, there are other signs to know if someone is attracted to us. His body language will also often change if he is attracted to you, and wants to try and woo you.

He may be acting up with friends and then change suddenly when he notices you approach, or vice versa he’s quiet and when you approach he livens up.

He may also lock eyes with you as you are about to leave, even if he is in engaging in conversation with someone else, he may want a last look at you before you leave. Have you ever noticed that a potential love interest gets a little too close to you?

This is a very clear sign that he’s keen. You can test this theory by moving away ever so slightly if he follows, he’s into you.

So there are plenty of signs that indicate a new love interest, but your eye movement is the biggest giveaway.
