The desire to “go green” has heralded an exciting new wave of eco-friendly technologies on the market.

We all know about the urgency of climate change and other environmental issues at the forefront of public concern. The world’s brightest minds are turning their attention to clean and eco-friendly technologies, to combat waste and harness green energy.

Let’s take a look at some new and groundbreaking eco-friendly technologies and discoveries. One day, they may shape our future and save our planet!

1. Solar Roof Tiles

The brainchild of business mogul Elon Musk, solar roof tiles are widely considered to soon become a staple feature of the modern eco-friendly home. Solar roof tiles work in the same way that solar panels do, by turning sunlight into electricity.

However, rather than becoming an obvious fixture in your home, you can fit them onto your roof to match the design you want, just like regular roofing tiles. Made with tempered glass, Solar Roof tiles are also more than three times stronger than standard roofing tiles.

2. LifeStraw

844 million people in the world today don’t have a full or any access to safe water. In fact, over 80 percent of childhood disease has a direct link to unsafe drinking water, inadequate hygiene, and poor sanitation. Those who are living in poverty and without access to clean and safe water are at great risk of contracting devastating illnesses. These include Hepatitis B, Typhoid Fever, and Dysentery.

LifeStraw uses a hollow fiber membrane to trap harmful bacteria and other contaminants that exist in unclean water. The LifeStraw removes 99.99% of waterborne bacteria and other bacteria, which are then flushed out by backwashing.

It’s no wonder that the LifeStraw is on our list of the most exciting new eco-friendly technologies in the battle against poverty and disease.

3. Cartridge Recycling

According to the estimates, in Australia, 34 printer cartridges get to landfill every minute. Carbon, plastic particles, and coloring agents that toner and ink cartridges consist of are toxic and difficult for Mother Nature to degrade.

Once in a landfill, they, therefore, have the potential to contaminate groundwater and the environment. This, coupled with the space that non-biodegradable materials take up in landfill areas, is a major concern of eco-conservationists across the globe.

You may, therefore, be surprised to hear, that as much as 97% of an empty toner cartridge can be recycled and reapplied in new and innovative ways through ink cartridge recycling schemes. Some exciting new products that are manufactured using recycled ink cartridges include:

TonerPave: TonerPave is a form of environmentally sustainable asphalt, made using the toner powder extracted from recycled toner cartridges. TonerPave has also branched out to utilizing recycled tires and waste acrylics.

Enviroliner: Enviroliner pen is the first pen in the world that uses recycled ink from discarded cartridges. All up, over 90% of an Enviroliner pen’s casing and ink is made from recycled materials.

With options that involve custom branding and pushes for Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, Close the Loop is looking to make environmentally sustainable pens more readily accessible to businesses.

eWood: eWood is a sustainable material based on recycled materials. These come from computers, printers, toner cartridges, and other electronic devices.

The production of unsustainable materials such as concrete, steel, and timber is based on environmentally damaging manufacturing processes. eWood offers an eco-friendly alternative to these.

4. Smart Thermostats

Air conditioning and heating are major contributors to global warming, due to the harmful toxins they release. One way to cut back on how much energy your heaters and air conditioners use is to install a smart thermostat.

Using a motion sensor, Smart Thermostats know when you leave the house and will adjust accordingly. The technology also learns your habits and takes the weather forecast into consideration. As a result, it attempts to come with up a schedule for keeping your home temperature at the optimum level.

5. Electric Cars

Electric cars emit 66% less carbon dioxide than petrol and diesel vehicles, and with the automotive and transportation industry being responsible for an estimated 75% of carbon emissions, this is an important statistic.

The electricity used to charge the car can also come from renewable sources like solar or wind power. The production of electric cars is also more eco-friendly than petrol or diesel car manufacturing and uses predominantly green materials.

With new and exciting eco-friendly technologies in different industries, it is easier than ever to do your part for the environment.

There are still a considerable amount of things to doin regards to environmentally friendly technologies. But it’s exciting to see the number of businesses looking to push the Earth toward a brighter future.
