Removing dream killers from your social circle will allow you to progress to your desired destination. These are the people who hold you back.

If you’re looking to make a difference in the world, you’re on an admirable quest.

You want the things that you do to benefit not only yourself but those around you. Ambitious dreams take this concept to a global scale. Do you want to revolutionize an industry? Gain something nobody has gained before? Change yourself and the world around you?

If you’re passionate and devoted, there’s no reason you can’t make real progress towards positive change – unless you’re surrounded by dream killers.

These are the people who hold you back. They’re hecklers to the stage you’re standing on. Knowing how to recognize and avoid these dream killers can give you the freedom to do the things that make you happy.

1. Narcissistic People

Narcissists don’t really care about you. You might be drawn to them, hoping that they will help and support you and they may even act as though they share an interest with you, but at the end of the day, they’re most concerned with what they can get for themselves.

Unfortunately, their gratification will sometimes come at your expense. These are people who are using you to better themselves, and they don’t deserve credit for your accomplishments. They will continuously take from you and offer nothing in return.

In order to avoid a narcissist’s interference in your life, you need to minimize your social interaction with them. If you let a narcissist borrow an inch, they’ll steal a whole mile before you’ve had a chance to process what’s going on.

If you have narcissists in your family or workplace, try not to discuss your accomplishments with them.

2. Insistent Enemies

You play an important part in this scenario. The insistent enemy is someone whom you’ve never gotten along with. You’re constantly out to get each other.

It could be conflicting ideologies or a resonating result of one negative experience you’ve had with each other that’s resulted in a longstanding “bad blood” relationship.

You can’t get an insistent enemy to throw in the towel on their own. The only way to get rid of this person is to let go of your end of the rope. They’ll fall on the other side. Move forward. You don’t have time or energy to deal with this person – it’s a waste of the passion you could be using to accomplish something wonderful.

3. Distractors

Distractors may not realize what they are doing to you. They want to go out and have fun. They throw tons of interesting parties and invite you to events you’d love to attend.

You have so much fun with the distractor that everything else feels less important. What the distractor chooses to do with their own life is their business. The only thing you can control is how you interact with this person.

Contrary to other dream killers, distractors are good to have once in a while. They will keep you from feeling burned out when things are tough. If you can’t find the time to take a vacation, it’s beneficial to touch base with a distractor from time to time to add some excitement to your life.

However, since playing around has never brought anyone closer to their dreams, you should learn how to say no to distractor’s tempting offers.

Above all, don’t let the distractor make you feel guilty when you decline invitations or you can’t make it to an event. Your dreams should take priority over your leisure time.

4. Needy Friends

Everyone likes to feel needed, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with that. The problem begins when we found ourselves surrounded by people to whom being needy has become a dominating factor in their lives.

Such people love to act out as if they were in constant pain, and the only one who has the remedy for all their sorrows and problems is you. They are the people who seem to constantly praise you, especially if you help them out, only to involve you in yet another of their problems from the never-ending list.

Obviously, you initially get some satisfaction out of being the hero, but you’re burdened with their weight as you drag those heavy leeches around with you.

You need to cut your needy friends off. Not only are you overextending yourself by tending to matters that aren’t your responsibility, but you’re preventing the growth of that person.

Necessity is the mother of invention, and if these people don’t have a reason to become independent, they won’t. You need to prioritize yourself in order to accomplish the things that matter to you.

5. Drama-Lovers

You don’t need a magnifying glass to spot drama-lovers. They’re waving their arms around, shouting, and begging for your attention. They’re easy to see, but many people allow them to stick around.

This is mostly because they fear backlash or creating more drama by giving this person the boot. This very well may happen, but there’s still a solid strategy to prevent things from going awry.

Eliminate a drama-lover by not paying attention to them. Don’t talk to them, don’t talk about them, don’t even make eye contact with them. This may incite a boisterous reaction from a drama-lover, but you should completely ignore it.

If you don’t give them anything new to use, they’ll eventually tire themselves out. Immerse yourself in working towards what’s important to you, using your drive to drown out the noise.

You should never allow the interference of others to hinder your success. You’ll still face obstacles on the way to your dream, but many of them can be overcome by hard work.

Removing dream killers from your social circle will allow you to progress to your desired destination. What kind of dream killers hold you back? How do you handle the negative people in your life?
