Dark circles under eyes are disturbing. They affect our appearance, and consequently, mood.

How and why do dark circles form under your eyes? Everyone’s under pressure to look fabulous and wants the answer to this question.

Of course, the most pressing concern is getting rid of these annoying dark rings. Life Advancer introduces some natural remedies that may erase them for good.

Causes of dark circles under eyes

Preorbital hyperpigmentation, otherwise known as dark circles, are heavy, dark blemishes that form around the eyes. They have a few causes.

1. Light wavelengths

The skin under your eyes looks blue because it only lets blue or violet wavelengths of light pass-through. As a result, it reflects blue light.

2. Skin elasticity

Dark circles may also appear when your skin loses its elasticity. Skin cells can’t regenerate and become thinner. Therefore, the elderly tend to have bluish patches under their eyes.

According to a study, people predisposed to pre orbital edema(their eyelids are unusually spongy), tend to have bluish circles under their eyes. Those who have prominent pigmentary demarcation lines (when darker areas of skin transit to lighter ones) may have them as well.

3. Excess melanin

Dark rings will collect under your eyes if your skin produces too much melanin. Pratik B. Sheth of the PDU government Medical College and Hospital in India remarks that this is the most common problem facing dermatologists. Blue circles are particularly prominent in darker-skinned patients.

4. Oxygenation of blood

Blood that leaks from preorbital vessels doesn’t have enough oxygen. Leakage happens when they sustain damage (e.g., a punch to the eye). Consequently, the skin under the eye turns blue.

5. Illness

Dark circles have a close association with puffiness. An allergy may cause fluid to build up in the body, especially under the eyes. It puts pressure on the blood vessels and makes them more visible.

6. Fatigue

This cause is probably the one that will interest you the most. You may wonder if stress and endless late nights explain your dark circles.

Stress and tiredness increase cortisol production. Cortisol, in turn, increases the volume of blood in the body. Your blood vessels become engorged, and dark circles form.

How to get rid of dark circles naturally

Medication is expensive and not necessarily useful. Get rid of your dark circles with these natural remedies.

1. Almond oil

First of all is almond oil. This beneficial ingredient helps to lighten dark circles. Vitamin E will enhance its effect.

Apply almond oil under your eyes before going to bed. Leave it on throughout the night and wash it off the next morning. Keep to this routine and your dark circles will disappear.

2. Cucumber

Cucumber has mild astringents that will prevent you from looking like a raccoon. Prepare fresh cucumber slices and leave them on the affected skin for about 10 minutes. Then, wash it off. Repeat this routine twice-daily for around a week.

Another alternative is cucumber and lemon juice, mixed in equal amounts. Soak a cotton ball in the mixture and apply it to the affected areas. Leave it on for about 15 minutes, and wash it off. Use this remedy for around a week.

3. Rose Water

Rose water revitalizes the skin and removes the dark circles under your eyes. Take eye pads and soak them in rose water for a few minutes. Put them on your closed eyelids and leave them there for about 15 minutes. Do this for a few weeks and watch your dark circles disappear.

4. Tea bags

Tea bags have antioxidant properties that get rid of puffiness. They have tannins, which can reduce discoloration and swelling.

Chill a few tea bags in the refrigerator for about an hour. Place one over each eye and leave it there for about 15 minutes. Then, wash your face. Repeat this process for around a week.

5. Turmeric

This beloved spice doesn’t only jazz up curries. It has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce dark circles.

A mixture of turmeric and pineapple juice will help to reduce your dark rings. Combine two teaspoons of turmeric powder and pineapple juice. You will get a thick paste. Apply it on your dark circles and leave it on for about 10 minutes. Do this every day until your circles vanish.

Try out these natural remedies

In all, dark circles under your eyes shouldn’t make you panic. You will reduce them if you apply these natural remedies consistently.
