Coconut oil is the new health craze, with every recipe seeming to use it as a healthy alternative. But did you know that coconut oil is also good for beauty treatments such as moisturizers and masks? Check out the following recipes for a coconut oil hair mask.

Coconut oil is known for its moisturizing and nourishing abilities which help to nourish the scalp and help to reduce sebum build-up from hair follicles. \This leaves your hair feeling softer, stronger, and can even help it to grow a little bit faster each month.

We have five recipes for a coconut oil hair mask so that you can get the most out of this miracle oil, no matter what your hair goals are.

1. Coconut Oil, Aloe Vera & Rosemary Oil Mask

Hair Goal: Growth

Ingredients:

  • Extra-virgin coconut oil (nourishes and hydrates) – 1 tablespoon
  • Aloe Vera gel (soothes, nourishes and stimulates the scalp) – 1 tablespoon
  • Rosemary essential oil (promotes hair growth) – 5 to 7 drops

Steps:

  1. Melt the coconut oil in the microwave so that it is warm and watery, but not hot.
  2. Add the Aloe Vera gel and Rosemary essential oil.
  3. Mix until fully combined.
  4. Using a clean brush, apply the mask to the roots and scalp first.
  5. Once the roots and scalp are covered, apply the mask to the lengths of your hair.
  6. Leave for fifteen minutes.
  7. Wash your hair using lukewarm water and a mild shampoo.
  8. Apply up to once a week for longer and stronger hair.

2. Coconut Oil, Banana & Honey Mask

Hair Goal: Conditioning

Ingredients:

  • Extra-virgin coconut oil (nourishes and hydrates) – 1 tablespoon
  • 1 Banana (enriches hair and provides nourishment)
  • Raw honey (retains moisture)– 2 tablespoons
  • Coconut milk (provides proteins) – 2 tablespoons

Steps:

  1. Mash the banana until a pulp.
  2. Melt the coconut oil in the microwave so that it is warm and watery, but not hot.
  3. Add the banana and honey.
  4. Mix until fully combined.
  5. Using a clean brush, apply the mask to the hair.
  6. Leave for half an hour to two hours, the longer you leave it the better the benefits.
  7. Wash your hair using lukewarm water and a mild shampoo.
  8. Apply up to once a week for smoother, more conditioned hair.

3. Coconut Oil, Egg & Honey Mask

Hair Goal: Repair

Ingredients:

  • Extra-virgin coconut oil (nourishes and hydrates) – 1 tablespoon
  • 1 egg yolk (provides a high level of protein)
  • Raw honey (retains moisture) – 1 tablespoon

Steps:



  1. Melt the coconut oil in the microwave so that it is warm and watery, but not hot.
  2. Add the egg yolk and honey.
  3. Mix until fully combined.
  4. Using a clean brush, apply the mask to the hair.
  5. Once the hair is covered, massage the mask into the scalp for a few minutes.
  6. Leave on for half an hour to an hour (an hour is preferable).
  7. Wash your hair using lukewarm water and shampoo.
  8. Apply up to twice a week for softer and stronger hair.

4. Coconut Oil & Lemon Mask

Hair Goal: Dandruff control

Ingredients:

  • Extra-virgin coconut oil (nourishes and hydrates) – 1 tablespoon
  • Juice from ½ a lemon (cleanses and nourishes the scalp)

Steps:

  1. Melt the coconut oil in the microwave so that it is warm and watery, but not hot.
  2. Add the lemon juice to the oil
  3. Mix until fully combined. Be aware you may need to mix this mask a few times as the oil and lemon may separate.
  4. Using a clean brush, apply the mask to the roots and scalp first.
  5. Once the roots and scalp are covered, apply the mask to the lengths of your hair.
  6. Leave for fifteen minutes.
  7. Wash your hair using lukewarm water and a mild shampoo. Air dry for best results.
  8. Apply up to once a week to control unwanted dandruff.

5. Coconut Oil & Vitamin E Overnight Mask

Hair Goal: Frizz

Ingredients:

  • Extra-virgin coconut oil (nourishes and hydrates) – 1 tablespoon
  • Vitamin E oil (Improves elasticity and hair strength) – ½ teaspoon

Steps:

  1. Melt the coconut oil in the microwave so that it is warm and watery, but not hot.
  2. Add the Vitamin E oil.
  3. Mix until fully combined.
  4. Use your fingers to massage the mask into the scalp.
  5. Once the roots and scalp are covered, apply the mask to the lengths of your hair.
  6. Leave for forty minutes.
  7. Wash your hair using lukewarm water and a mild shampoo.
  8. Apply up to twice a week to control frizz and maintain your mane.
