Watching any animal as they go about their daily lives is fascinating, but with cats, there is so much we can learn.

I’ve often said that my soul animal is a cat. They’re sleek felines who live for leisure – who wouldn’t want that kind of life?! It’s only after observing my friends cat that I decided we should all start living more like cats do, and we’ll be purring away in no time.

Cats are Independent

Cats are well-known for being an independent animal – sure, leave some food out for them every now and then but it’s fairly safe to say they come and go as they please, without much help from humans. You should live your life that way too (minus the part about relying on other humans for food) – do what makes you happy and come and go as you please. Being independent is what life is all about, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have somebody to cuddle up to when you feel like it.

Make yourself a Priority

Cat’s do what they want. They’ll happily sit there grooming their fur, ignoring your pleas for attention, because they put themselves first and if their fur needs grooming, it needs grooming, regardless of what else is going on around them.

Sure, take this with a pinch of salt, but the message should still be the same – you are your priority and it’s okay to put yourself first sometimes.

Pursue things that interest you

Cats don’t care for things that don’t interest them, they simply go after the things they like and the things that make them happy. As humans, we should do this more often. Do what makes you happy, pursue things that grab your interest and don’t let other people get in your way.

Be Generous

Cats always bring their owners gifts – dead birds, dead mice, the intention is there and they see it as a show of affection for their owner. Be generous with your time and give those you love a gift. It doesn’t have to be expensive, or cost any money at all – just be generous.

Be Relentless about What you Want

Don’t take “no” for an answer. When cats are hungry, they will relentlessly bother you until you feed them – take a similar approach in your own life. If you want something – be relentless. Work hard until you get it and if necessary, enlist others to help you achieve your goals.

Be Confident

Cat always has a sleek aura of confidence around them wherever they go. Strut into that room like you own it and don’t care who else is around. That type of confidence is something we can all learn from.

Cats Demand Respect

You have to respect them wherever they go and you should do no less. If a cat is unhappy with you, it gets clear. They will claw you, annoy you or simply avoid you if you do not show them enough respect. Whilst humans can’t exactly do the same thing, ensure you are being respected at all times and don’t put up with anything less.

Explore

As a huge fan of traveling, this is one of my favorite things. Cats love to explore – they will climb to the highest points so they can enjoy the view, and they’ll take risks walking over risky areas simply to see what’s around the corner.

More people should take risks and explore, whether it is your hometown or something further afield – get out there and see what the world has to offer.

Get Back up

Cats are fairly lucky because if they fall, no matter the distance, they will land on their feet. Humans aren’t quite so lucky – in a physical sense and a metaphorical one. Sometimes when we fall, we fall hard and struggle to see how it can get better.

Whereas cats handle the fall with a form of elegance we can only dream of, before strutting off to explore the next thing that catches their eye. Falling down doesn’t mean you have to stay there – make like a cat and strut off with style, in search of your next adventure.

Cats get enough Sleep

Cat’s sleep. A lot. When they’re tired, they simply find a comfy spot and nap for a while. Again, not quite as easy when you’re a human with commitments and a job, but getting enough sleep is essential for your overall health, mood and general happiness.
