We all have days when we need something to cheer us up. This list of the best comedy movies of all time will help you do just that.
We all go through times when life gets us down. Whether it’s related to work, a relationship or just getting up on the wrong side of the bed – it happens to us all.
Although it can feel like there might be nothing that will brighten your day, even just a little, turning to the world of film could be just the thing you need.
Below you will find a few of the best comedy movies of all time that are guaranteed to make your day.
Films have always been a very powerful medium that can alter the way you feel. Sad films make us feel emotional, scary films put us on edge and increase levels of adrenaline and funny films make us laugh.
Truly great comedy films can not only make us laugh though but can help us feel better about life in general and remind us that even though life might be bad, it’s probably not the end of the world.
With that in mind, let’s look at some of the best comedy movies that will always put a smile on your face and make your day.
The Princess Bride
The Princess Bride spoofed fairytale stories long before DreamWorks and the Shrek franchise did it more successfully.
However, The Princess Bride is a classic comedy that is far more than just a fairytale parody – it has elements of fantasy, swashbuckling, adventure and romance all taking place in a world full of princes and princesses, castles, little villages, giants, pirates and many more weird and wonderful characters.
It is also an incredibly wry and satirical take on the genre, that actually hides – beneath all the wit and ridiculousness – a very sweet and incredibly old-fashioned film that warms your heart, gives you the belly ache and leaves a permanent smile on your face. Groundhog Day
If you are not smiling just reading the name of this film – it’s likely you never saw it. One of Bill Murray’s best turns as a lead star, sees him star as a curmudgeonly weatherman who finds himself stuck in a thought-provoking and hilarious time loop that won’t come unstuck until he gets the day he is forced to revisit right.
Getting it right by turning over a new leaf, becoming a better person and making Andie McDowell fall in love with him. Aside from the physical comedy, Murray’s deadpan expression and delivery of a sharp script; the endearing thing about this film is how it takes a fairly schmaltzy theme and turns it into a piece of cinematic magic.
This is definitely a film you can watch and watch again and should be close at hand for those days when life is not going so well. Watch the full movie here: https://www.youtube.com/
When Harry Met Sally
You will normally always find When Harry Met Sally at the top of lists of the best romantic comedies and if that was what this list was, it would be right at the top. Simple because it is not only the best romantic comedy ever but one of the best comedy movies in general.
It is an almost flawless masterpiece from top to bottom, side to side. The cast is perfect – not just Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan in the title roles either – but everyone in this film has a place and a purpose and adds to it.
The writing is astutely witty, on the money and actually earns the ridiculously sentimental ending. You want Harry and Sally to get their happy ending and feel better knowing they did. Watch the full movie here:https://www.youtube.com/
The Muppets Take Manhattan
Would a list of feel-good comedies be complete without at least one entry from Jim Henson’s lovable, furry characters? We don’t think so and although virtually any Muppet’s title is bound to put a big smile on your face – this is quintessential Muppets movie mayhem at its finest.
The music, the cameos (Joan Rivers to name a few), an amazing and hilarious car chase scene through Central Park and a happy ending – featuring a wedding. Any film that ends in a wedding full of furry creatures is bound to turn that frown upside down. Watch full movie here:https://www.youtube.com/
Singing in the Rain
Arguably one of the best and most memorable musicals of all time is actually also one of the best comedies ever. It is a sheer pleasure to watch, from the classic songs, the vibrant colors, the amazing dance choreography and performances from Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds to the slapstick comedy of Donald O’Connor.
We feel it would be a challenge to watch this film and to not at least smile and tap your toe a little. However, you are more likely to be up on your feet dancing and singing along or rolling around in stitches at the hilarity and pure joy this film brings from start to finish.
Bringing Up Baby
Although When Harry Met Sally may be the best romantic comedy of all time, it is worth mentioning what is often thought to be the very first of the genre – Bringing Up Baby. Unlike When Harry Met Sally though, this does not have a thought-provoking message.
However, what it has in spades is absurd twists and turns, pratfalls and a remarkable romantic lead pairing of Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn.
What is probably the most surprising thing about a film that features men adorned in women’s clothing, dinosaur bones and a strange case of mistaken leopard identity is the fact that this was Katherine Hepburn’s first foray into comedy.
Despite coming across as a natural, she learned much on set from her co-stars, which in some ways proves just how much of a true star and clever actress she was. watch the full movie here:https://www.youtube.com/
It is true that life gets us down from time to time, but you can fight the blues and miseries away by watching one or even all of the best comedy movies listed above.
