An avocado hair mask can provide your hair with moisture and shine that will last for days while protecting your strands from environmental harm.

No doubt, we all have days when our hair refuses to comply. It’s dull, feels excessively dry, and the frizz is beyond repair, not to talk about the endless split ends everywhere. That’s when the need for hair masks comes in.

If your hair feels foreign to touch, or your scalp is being strange, the likelihood of you having damaged hair is high. Many factors cause hair damage, from the constant use of heat and styling tools to the use of color.

Damaged hair isn’t wholly condemned; however, it can be healed with some tender, loving (and mostly organic) care. There are many ways you can bring your hair back to a state of vitality.

A healthy diet, exercise, and constant water intake are high for this, as they nourish your hair from the inside out. Externally, you can apply some ingredients to give your hair natural sheen and moisture; avocado is one of these ingredients.

Why Use An Avocado Hair Mask?

Avocado comes with many health benefits, both for your skin and hair. It has twice the amount of potassium possessed by bananas. Also, it contains proteins and amino acids in higher levels than a majority of the fruits around.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant in avocado that is absorbed into our scalps and hair shafts. The vitamin B in avocado has also been known to aid in hair growth and increased hair strength.

So if you want to ensure your hair stays healthy and strong all year round, the following avocado hair mask recipes will help:

1. Mayonnaise and Avocado Hair Mask

Mayonnaise contains egg yolk, vinegar, and oils that work together to nourish and moisturize your hair. The presence of L-cysteine, an amino acid, in mayonnaise helps the scalp to promote healthy hair growth.

Use the following recipe to make your own mayonnaise and avocado hair mask.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1/2 Ripe Medium Sized Avocado
  • Shower Cap

Prep Time: 4 minutes

Processing Time: 20 minutes

Procedure: Mash your avocado in a bowl and add it to the mayonnaise. Mix thoroughly.

Apply this avocado hair mask onto the ends of your hair, the scalp and the length of your hair. Once applied, cover your hair and let it sit for 20 minutes.

Wash your hair with cold water and shampoo, and condition your hair with a moisturizing conditioner. Allow for your hair to air-dry. Use this once or twice a week for full benefit.

2. Aloe Vera & Avocado Hair Mask

Aloe vera promotes scalp circulation, which in turn strengthens the hair roots and reduces itching or dandruff. At the same time, the desert plant gel supports sustainable and healthy hair growth.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Ripe Medium Sized Avocado
  • 2 tbsp Aloe Vera Gel
  • 2 tbsp Raw Honey
  • 1 1/2 Lemon Juice
  • 2 tsp Coconut Oil
  • Shower Cap

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Processing Time: 15-20 minutes

Procedure: Combine all ingredients until you achieve a consistent, lump-free mix. Apply this onto your scalp, hair length, and ends. Once your hair is fully covered, put on a shower cap and wait 15-20 minutes.

Wash the mask out with cold water and a bottle of shampoo, ending with a conditioner. Let your hair air-dry. Do this once every two weeks.

3. Yoghurt-Avocado Hair Mask

Yogurt contains milk protein, which in its structure is very similar to keratin, the fiber protein. Keratin forms the inner and outer structure of our hair and ensures that the hair is powerful and elastic.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Yogurt
  • 1/2 Ripe Medium Sized Avocado
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • Shower Cap

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Processing Time: 20 minutes

Procedure: Mash your avocado, ensuring it’s lump-free. Mix well with other ingredients until you have a smooth mixture. Apply the mask to both hair and scalp, coating the tips of your strands.

Once your entire head is coated, cover your head with the shower cap and wait for 20 minutes. Shampoo the mask out with cool water, finishing off with a conditioner. Allow your hair air-dry after blotting out the excess water.

4. Avocado & Egg Hair Mask

Egg yolk helps to nourish and strengthen hair due to its high levels of protein, vitamin A and collagen. In addition to looking healthy, a weekly egg mask treatment would help to give the masks as well as a brilliant shine, and also improve the proper hair growth.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium avocado
  • 1 egg
  • 5 drops of sage essential oil
  • 5 drops of rosemary essential oil
  • 1 tablespoon of castor oil

Procedure: Fuse all elements in a bowl until the mask smoothens.

Apply this avocado hair mask on damp hair, starting from your scalp. Spread the mask onto your hair, especially on the ends of your hair. Clip your hair to your head, and sit with a shower cap for 40-45 minutes.

Rinse out the mask with lukewarm water (not hot), before using a mild shampoo. Hot or warm water will cause the egg to stick to your hair, and that is difficult to get rid of! Do this at least once a week.

5. Avocado, Banana and Honey Hair Mask

Bananas are exceptionally healthy for the hair as it contains many nutrients such as vitamins A, B, C and E as well as minerals such as potassium, zinc, iron, and manganese. Adding banana to your avocado hair mask will ensure your hair stays in great shape.

Ingredients:

  • One banana.
  • 1 tbsp. honey.
  • One avocado.
  • 1 tbsp. avocado oil.
  • 1 tbsp. coconut oil.

Procedure: Mix the avocado and banana in a mixer, before adding the oils and honey. Apply the mix to your hair and let it set for 20 minutes to an hour.

Wash off this avocado hair mask with warm water or a chemical free-shampoo.

To Summarise:

Treating damaged hair requires a lot of time, care and love. It seems demanding, but it’s possible. The first tip to managing damaged hair is to keep your hair moisturized. Using store-bought or chemical products may be cost and time effective, but they are just temporary fixes.

If you’re not the DIY type, you can purchase avocado hair masks at a store. Even though avocado is organic and safe to use, people allergic to it must consult their doctors before application. You can also do a patch test to rule out any allergies before you consider applying it to your hair.

Generally speaking, it is always better to opt for more organic methods as they are more effective in rejuvenating our hair. Avocado hair masks are one of the best masks you can use to achieve beautiful hair over time.
