Making your own mask out of avocado is easy and fun, as well as giving you some incredible benefits to your skin. Below are five recipes for a soothing avocado face mask to help your skin stay clear, hydrated and vibrant at home.

The Classic

If you’re looking for a quick and easy mask to give your skin a boost during tough weeks, this classic recipe can be made without any extra ingredients other than what you have in the house. The avocado gives you the nutrients your skin craves and the honey has natural brightening agents that will make your skin glow.

  • ½ a large, ripe avocado
  • 2 tablespoons of hot water
  • 1 teaspoon of organic honey
  1. Mash or blend the avocado until silky smooth
  2. Add the honey to the hot water and stir until it dissolves completely
  3. Mix the honey mixture into the avocado and mix until fully blended
  4. Apply using your fingers, a brush or spatula
  5. Wear for ten minutes before washing off with warm water

The Greek

This recipe of the avocado face mask is best for sensitive skin as all the ingredients are organic and the final mask is smooth to apply. The yogurt will help to soothe any irritation whilst offering the brightening and moisture than sensitive skin craves but can be hard to offer.

  • ¼ a large, ripe avocado
  • 1 teaspoon of plain organic yogurt
  • ½ teaspoon of organic honey
  1. Mash or blend the avocado until smooth
  2. Mix the honey and yogurt until a paste forms
  3. Mix the honey and yogurt mixture into the avocado and mix until fully blended
  4. Apply using your fingers, a brush or spatula
  5. Wear for ten to fifteen minutes before washing off with warm water

The Breakfast

This recipe is especially good for dry skin, as the oatmeal acts as a natural but delicate exfoliator to take off any dead skin whilst the avocado gives the all-important moisture to keep dry skin smooth and soft.

  • ½ a large, ripe ripe avocado
  • ½ cup of plain, dry oatmeal
  1. Prepare the oatmeal according to the given instructions.
  2. Mash or blend the avocado until smooth.
  3. Apply using your fingers, a brush or spatula
  4. Keep the mask on for ten to fifteen minutes before washing off with lukewarm water

The Fruity One

This recipe is great if your skin is feeling a bit dull, as the small amount of acidity in the apricot brightens and lightens skin. The ingredients make this recipe a great option to share with a friend as you use half of each for one person, excellent for a girlie night in.

  • ½ a large, ripe avocado
  • ½ a large, ripe apricot
  1. Mash or blend the avocado until smooth
  2. Mash or blend the apricot until smooth (do this separately to the avocado)
  3. Mix the two ingredients together until it forms a pasty texture
  4. Apply with fingers, brush or spatula
  5. Wear for thirty minutes, or overnight if you want extra nourishment
  6. Wash off with warm water and a flannel if worn overnight

The Monkey

This avocado face mask is especially good for those who have oilier skin than normal, as it absorbs excess sebum as well as helping to tighten pores, which can combat acne. Use once every week or two to keep oil levels down and your skin looking in top condition.

  • 1 large, ripe avocado
  • 1 banana
  • The yolk of 1 egg
  1. Mash or blend the avocado until smooth
  2. Mash or blend the banana until smooth (do this separately to the avocado)
  3. Mix the two fruits together with the egg yolk until smooth with a uniform consistency throughout
  4. Apply for ten to fifteen minutes
  5. Rinse off with warm water

Face masks are a great way to relax and give your skin some much needed TLC. Adding avocado to your masks offers so many benefits to your skin and is always good fun in the process. If you have any avocados lying around the house which are starting to turn, these are the ideal avocados to use in a mask, as they are easy to mash and smoother to apply.
