How often do you use excuses that are holding you back from living the life of your dreams?

I hear it all the time, I would love to do “enter cool thing here” but I don’t have enough….. Time. ~ Money. ~ Experience. ~ Connections. And the list of excuses goes on and on and on….

Most of the time you may not even be aware that you are making these “excuses”.

To you, it may just seem like a legitimate reason, a practical reason that must be observed.

Why not take a minute now to think about something you would love to achieve in your life. Next, ask yourself what is preventing you from achieving this goal. What excuses are you making that is preventing you from having the perfect job? Ideal Relationship? Traveling? etc…

Why We Make Excuses

Life will always present us with challenges. There are times when we may find ourselves in the midst of a life crisis, experiencing issues with employment or with money, with health, or relationships. No matter what the situation, using it as an “excuse” can only last so long.

Eventually, these excuses become habits and patterns that may forever hold us back if we don’t address them.

The most common reason we use excuses, however, is when there is some programming in our subconscious mind that makes us feel that we are not good enough, or not smart enough, or not talented enough to have what it is we want.

It is through this line of thinking that we start viewing these external situations or life events, as excuses for why we can’t do what we want to do.

How to Stop Making Excuses and Start Living

1. Uncover the Root of Your Excuses

There is no need to feel guilty for having excuses. Sometimes there are legitimate reasons as to why we can’t do something at this present time. Use your discretion to work out where this “excuse” really comes from. Is it legitimate?

Ιf not, What are you afraid of? What are you resisting? Why do you feel that you need to make excuses?

2. Drop the “Me Against the World” Mentality (Ego)

Once you have uncovered your excuse(s), it’s easy to retract back and make your excuse a “me against the world” situation. We may not always be given a choice over what events life presents us with, but we are always given a choice on HOW we choose to handle it.

Remember, the only thing that is truly in your way are the excuses you keep telling yourself.

3. Find a Solution

So, you have identified your excuse(s), now it’s time to come up with a strategy to move your excuses into a solution. Develop a plan to turn your excuses into positive, actionable tasks that you can overcome.

Becoming proactive will help you live life to the fullest instead of being a slave to your “excuses”, which are really just your fears of not being enough.

Einstein once said:

There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle.

Finding the miracle in all of life’s situations will help you have a greater understanding of how you can overcome and find solutions to your excuses.

So, are you ready to stop making excuses and start making a life?
