Life is a game. And like in video games, you can level up. It’s kind of similar, no? In games, you gain experience points by killing monsters, traversing the world map, completing missions and defeating the tough, final bosses in their final form.

Well, you can’t do any of that in real life. But you do gain experience points. It’s just a matter of what you’re doing and what you’re learning.

Ready to level up and get some legendary loot? Here we present you fifteen ways to level up in this game called Life.

1. Read

For knowledge is power. This is probably the biggest and most underrated form of luxury as it is overshadowed by “cooler” things like social media. Stop surfing for random videos. Stop scrolling down your Facebook feed to see what’s up with everyone else.

Read. Reading takes you places, regardless of whether it’s fiction or non-fiction.

And here’s a little bonus stat you get: Reading boosts your confidence too. How so? Finishing a book is an accomplishment and you will feel that much smarter.

So read. Go to your local library. You may not be learning magic spells, but you’d open up your life to a new level.

2. Fall in love

If you want to experience the sensation of what love really is, then give yourself the chance to fall in love and flow with the feelings. It is in a relationship where you’d discover more things about yourself too.

I know you may be scared and all, but don’t ever let a bad experience or a bad person hinder what could be the best thing to happen to you. Even heroes need love too you know.

3. Or break up

From a toxic relationship that is. A relationship with someone who’s not right for you isn’t the way to go. They’re anchors.

So muster up that courage to break away from that person. Breakups hurt, but you’ll be fine. Singlehood isn’t as scary as you think. You never know what you’re capable of. Besides, the next relationship will be better for sure as you’d have had learned first-hand what a bad relationship is.

4. Do something that scares you, very much

Punch fear in the face. Fear is imaginary. It’s not real. That’s how heroes defeat bosses in games. They get over their fears and face the villains anyway. That’s how you’d realize how capable you truly are in life.

5. Travel

Life is truly too short for a world this big. We all share the same planet and it’s time we all ought to get to know each other better. So travel. Meet different people, see the sights and start absorbing different cultures. I guarantee that your outlook on life will change.

6. Hang out with your positive, core group only

Eliminate toxic friends in your life. They’re not your friends. You absolutely do not have to deal with an environment where people are insulting you, annoying you and generally putting you down.

Start hanging out with the friends you care for ONLY. You’d easily gain so many things like positivity, happiness, inspiration and a damn good mood. This is like how in games, you gain stats from other players’ “aura”. So go get’em. It’ll dramatically shift your life for the better.

7. Have sex

A friend once told me this, “Have sex. Demystify it!”And I think it’s one of the most realistic advice ever.

From what I observed, I find that people who haven’t had sex before having this mental block that they are not attractive or good enough to find a partner. As such, they look up to attractive people, thinking that they are all that so much so that they have a hold on them.

believe this to be true, whether someone would like to admit it or not.

So if you can, do whatever it takes to have sex. Demystify it and realize that it’s a big deal, for you should celebrate it and have fun because sex is awesome. But learn that it’s also NOT a big deal because you shouldn’t be looking up to attractive people only.

Slight disclaimer: Be respectful. Don’t objectify people.

8. Meditate

No, meditation isn’t some new age, hocus-pocus thing that only a chosen few in life can do. Everyone can do it.Meditate so that you learn how to quiet the mind and allow new insights to come in your life. You’d be surprised how a simple, new insight can mean so much to you.

Meditation is also giving yourself space. Everybody needs space. You don’t have to be considered an introvert to meditate. A quiet environment would give you that break you deserve. So meditate and level up. Your mind needs a rest too.

9. Find Passion

Passion is what lights your fire. Effectively, it gives you something to always look forward to in life, all the time. And you’ll love it because it harnesses your deepest and most positive emotions.

Life is not a life at all when you’re just going with the flow that society has adjusted for you. Get a passion to level up. It’d feel like you’re on a quest for life.

10. Create with your passion

A quote by the great Neil Gaiman, “Make good art.”So if you want to level up, create and express yourself.

You don’t have to become the best painter, the best dancer or the best writer in the world. Create and realize your innermost feelings. Share it with the world even. These are things, experiences money can’t buy.

11. Stand up for yourself

Unfortunately, there’s bound to be some people in this world who want to give you a hard time. They’re most commonly known as bullies. This goes hand-in-hand with doing something that scares you. Stand up against these people. Assert yourself.

You’d realize it’s not as scary as you think. You’d also learn a thing or two about human behavior, mostly how people who take it out on the world are actually suffering deeply. They’ll never “win.” Then ravel in your confidence. You’re your own hero.

12. Shed all labels

Listen up. You are not your job. You are not your salary. And neither are you the judgemental words others have unleashed upon you.

You don’t have to act according to whatever that is expected out of you. You’re a unique individual. You’ve talents and you can have a passion. Be your own person. Never apologize for it. Go live.

13. Help others. Do good

Unlike games, you can’t score karma points or shift your morality meter and show it to others. But just do good. Just because.

This is actually a good, leveled-up skill as you’d be surprised how many people just don’t care anymore. So start making the world a better place for all of us. Also, sometimes, the only way to feel better is to simply help others. It will heal you.

14. Eat right. Sleep well. Exercise

You can’t progress if you aren’t sleeping enough. You’ll lag if you have an unhealthy body. You can’t play at all if you are always falling sick. Sadly, these basic fundamentals have been shunned upon by skewed ideas of a modern life. You need these! No excuses.

15. Above all else, Have Fun!

A game is meant to be fun. Life is too short to keep worrying and not be happy. So remember. Just have some fun. You’re allowed to.
