Have you ever wonder why you are using certain food combinations? I bet you never paid attention to the fact that orange juice tastes wonderful with a bowl of oatmeal, or a salad put together with fresh greens and ripe tomatoes are exactly what you are craving.

Powerful food combinations

There is a reason why we love these interesting combos. In fact, there isn’t as much thinking to this conclusion as basic knowledge derived from the body itself. Yes, your body is telling you what it needs to be as close to perfectly healthy as it can be.

There are perfect food combinations that will drastically change how you feel, how you look and how long you will live—they are yummy too!

1. Chocolate and Apples

Wow, just the sound of that makes you want to lick your lips, right? Chocolate resides in a group with tea, wine, and grapes, which all contain flavonoid Catchen, an antioxidant that prevents cancer and atherosclerosis.

Apples are known for their anti-inflammatory flavonoids called quercetins. Quercetins have also been known to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and lung and prostate cancers. The skin of the apple, especially the red delicious, is full of these properties.

According to Barry Halliwell Ph.D., a science professor at the University of Singapore, both these foods together can improve cardiovascular health and provide anti-coagulant properties as well.

2. Whole Wheat and Peanuts

Men, if it’s amino acids that you need, try this combo. Whole wheat, according to Diane Birt, Ph.D., a food synergy expert, and professor at Ohio State University lacks certain amino acids important to men’s health.

Peanut butter, on the other hand, has plenty of these amino acids. With this being said, a peanut butter sandwich after a workout is much healthier than a protein shake!

3. Rosemary and Red Meat

If grilling is your fortay, this combo can help you reap full benefits. It has been proven that grilling meat over 375 degrees produces carcinogens.

Rosemary, on the other hand, is an herb that produces antioxidants. When it’s time to grill steaks, try sprinkling rosemary over the meat and let the antioxidants soak up the carcinogens.

4. Yogurt and Almonds

One of the magic combo rules in men’s health is eating fat-soluble foods with healthy fats. That’s right, some fats are actually good for you! For instance, vitamins A, D and E are all fat-soluble and can be perfectly combined with foods such as Yogurt, vitamin D rich food and almonds, an example of healthy fats.

Feel free to enjoy a combination of yogurt with almonds, a slice of ham with carrots or even a glass of full-fat dairy products. It’s really okay to do this!

5. Avocados and Tomatoes

If you ever wondered why tomatoes were a needed ingredient in guacamole, then your body tells you why. They just taste amazing together! What’s more, this combo serves a one/two punch to negative health issues.

Tomatoes are full of Lycopene which is a cancer-fighting, antioxidant-rich carotenoid. This substance also reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. Since avocados are delicious and healthy fats, tomatoes make the perfect health partner.

Registered dietician, Susan Bowerman of California Polytechnic State University says that full-fat tomato-based dressings and tomato sauces paired with olive oils are much better than fat-free substitutes. Apparently, we have been doing this healthy living thing all wrong.

6. Tomatoes and Broccoli

No one is sure why, but this combo actually prevents prostate cancer. During a recent Cancer Research study, John W. Erdman Jr. Ph.D. of the University of Illinois was able to shrink a large prostate tumor growing on a lab rat.

His weapon, of course, was broccoli and tomatoes. Amazing huh!

7. Fruit Varieties

Apparently, eating a variety of fruits is much better than eating a quantity of one type of fruit alone. The Journal of Nutrition published a study by Rui Hai Lui Ph.D. from Cornell University’s department of food sciences that states “Individual fruits have a number of antioxidants surpassed by a variety of the same fruits.”

Mix or match, eating apples with berries or melon with plums is more effective than relying on endless chomping on apples or oranges alone. Do the math and enjoy the fruits!

8. Kale and Lemon

Sometimes plant-based iron is not easily absorbed. Vitamin C can be the answer to this problem. Citrus fruits, high in vitamin C, can actually help the body absorb this iron very similar to fish or red meat.

Dana Kennedy of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute suggests eating vegetables such as bell peppers, strawberries, and broccoli for variations of vitamin C intake, paired with leafy green vegetables for iron. This is one of the food combinations that it’s a sure winner for men’s health.

9. Salmon and Soy

Fish has always been good for health, but recent studies suggest that salmon has a large amount of Vitamin D which greatly reduces the risk of cancer.

Soy is a great partner for salmon as well-the organic soy products can offer huge health benefits.

10. Cantaloupe and Eggs

Protein and carbohydrates are great combinations. Since fruit like cantaloupe is considered a good carbohydrate, it can be consumed with proteins such as eggs to regulate insulin in the body, preventing high sugar levels.

11. Turmeric and Black Pepper

Turmeric contains some of the most powerful cancer-fighting properties. The problem with this is that Turmeric has a low bioavailability. This means that consuming Turmeric alone does not afford the great anti-cancer qualities that are needed.

If you pair Turmeric with black pepper, however, you can receive 1,000 times more bioavailability, due to the piperine content of the spice. The next time you enjoy a curry, make sure you add a dash of black pepper to your health!

So, if you ever wonder why you are using certain food combinations, the answer is simple. Your body makes the final choice.

So, if you crave something, the body needs it. If you have a taste for a certain dish, the body seeks certain vitamins.

If you heed healthy instructions and listen to what your body is saying, you may be amazed at how easy it is to eat right! Relax, pay attention and begin your healthy journey to a long life!
