If you are a joint pain sufferer, you may be surprised that such a common product as lemon can actually help you relieve your pain.
When you think of lemons you probably automatically think of health. They are great for drinking in warm water when you have a cold and are an excellent source of vitamin C. When consumed regularly they also help treat your stomach, liver, gut and immune system. Lemons have also been used as an antiseptic and can help reduce fevers.
The lemon tree is one of the oldest trees in the world, so you are right in thinking they are good for you – there’s a reason they have stuck around for so long. And if you haven’t already incorporated lemons into your diet, then it’s about time you did.
Lemons are a great source of vitamin C, A, B1, B6, magnesium, bioflavonoids, pectin, folic acid, phosphorus, calcium, and potassium. They are all-round pretty impressive.
And despite their acidic flavor, lemons are actually very low in sugar and rich in high alkaline content (which is a combination of calcium, potassium and magnesium). They, therefore, have a healthy alkalising effect on the body, not an acidic one.
When your body has fully metabolised lemon juice it has an alkaline effect, which raises the pH levels in the body – keeping your insides balanced.
But did you know that lemons can also help with joint pain?
Lemon peel contains a number of essential oils that work at relaxing blood vessels. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, which helps to reduce nerve and joint pain.
Instead of seeking out an expensive cream or lotion, why not try making your own all-natural lemon peel remedy for your joint pain. Here’s the best way to prepare the lemon peel and apply to your aches and pains:
- Grate the peel – for this technique it’s important to only grate the yellow layer of the skin and not the white part. When you have the peel, rub it directly onto the affected area, cover with a bandage and keep it there for two hours.
- Skin two whole lemons and put the skin in a jar. Fill the jar with extra virgin olive oil, put the lid on top and leave it for two weeks. After two weeks you can use the oil (that has been infused with the lemon peel) on your painful area and leave it overnight wrapped in a gauze.
With regular applications you will begin to see an improvement in your pain levels. And you’ve got nothing to lose! If you suffer from chronic joint pain, get down to your local store and purchase some lemons immediately.
