To many, happiness seems to be very elusive. They want it so badly that they do what it takes to chase it. And that’s the problem: Chasing happiness.

If you ask me, happiness isn’t meant to be chased. It’s nothing but a mere feeling. It’s a realization, that thing “underneath your nose all along.”

We need the reminders now and then as life keeps getting in the way. We get distracted, become busy and even start taking things for granted.

Here are my reminders for you then. 13 signs you’re allowed to be happy right now

1. A healthy body

This is something we all surely take for granted from time to time. You absolutely do not want to be constantly riddled with sickness, incurable ones at that. Be happy you do not have to take in medication all the time.

2. No disabilities

A somewhat clichéd thing to be grateful for, but yes, can you imagine your life now when you’re suddenly unable to carry out basic functions like eating or bathing by yourself? Be happy with your body. Get out there and live it up.

3. You’re reading this

You know, with your phone, browser and basically, the internet. It’s there to entertain you and expand your mind, not bore you. Remember to flip it around. Don’t become a zombie who’s randomly surfing social media channels for nothing.

4. You have the power of choice

If you think about it, you can absolutely do whatever it is you want any time, anywhere. Your crappy job, annoying friends or abusive relationships even cannot hold you down. You can leave at any time. Don’t ever let anything else other than your heart dictate your life.

5. Your friends and family

Stop whatever it is you’re doing right now and just think of the people who have made you the person you are today. Just a little bit. Remember how grateful you are for them and how they’re always there for you.

6. “There’s enough to go around”

Whatever it is you’re aiming for in life, there’s enough of it. And some of it belongs to you. All you have to do is to put in that hard work. I know this reeks of “easier said than done”, but just for a bit, I want you to think about how there is indeed enough to go around. It’s not like the world intentionally closes up just when you want it.

7. The wonderful memories you have and how you can make more

Think about the awesome things you’ve been through in life. They rocked. But it’s time to move on. Don’t get too sentimental because you can absolutely have more fun times ahead. There’s no reason why you can’t!

8. Your achievements and more to come

If you managed to overcome challenges before, you can easily do it again. That’s happiness right there. Nothing can ever hold you back as long as you set your mind to it.

9. “The one” is out there

I’m a firm believer that there’s someone for everybody. It’s not to say you’re only meant for one single individual, but more like you’re meant to fall in love with somebody who loves you for who you are. You just have to do what you love and let them come to you. Then make you sure you open up to meeting people and not be so picky.

10. You can travel

Be it a once-a-year vacation or your backpacking adventures, a huge world is out there and you can travel thanks to modern forms of transportation. Just think about the many different cultures and people you get to meet!

11. There’re good people out there

Focus on them. Dump the toxic friends and create an environment of friends who can lift you up. Yes, good people do exist. And they appreciate you for who you are. Don’t be discouraged by the negative ones.

12. You have a home

For one, that’s shelter and protection against elements. Secondly, that’s a place where you can go return to your loved ones.

13. You’re somebody’s hero

You may not it, but you are. Somebody out there is grateful for you being you. That’s how awesome you really are. Don’t change that. Be happy and inspire others.
